Our Materials and Their Impact

Garden Furniture UK is a family business in Leicestershire. We sell rattan garden furniture. We are honest about what we are and what we are not - and we are not a green energy company. But we do think carefully about the materials in every set we sell, and here is why.

HDPE Rattan: the Material We Chose and Why

Every set we stock uses HDPE (high-density polyethylene) synthetic rattan rather than the cheaper PVC alternative. PVC rattan can leach harmful chemicals and is difficult to recycle. HDPE is non-toxic, UV stable, and accepted by most local authority plastic recycling schemes when the furniture eventually reaches end of life.

Aluminium: Built to Stay Out of Landfill

All our frames are powder-coated aluminium. Aluminium cannot rust, so our furniture does not deteriorate after a few British winters the way steel-framed sets do. That means fewer replacements and less waste.

When aluminium is eventually recycled, the process uses roughly 5% of the energy required to produce it from scratch. Any scrap metal facility or council recycling centre will take aluminium frames.

Packaging and Delivery

Products arrive in recyclable cardboard with polystyrene inserts for protection. We prioritise getting your furniture to you undamaged first time - because a single successful delivery is always better for the environment than a damaged item that needs replacing.
